What happens if my purchase is more than the card value?

If your purchase total is higher than the balance on your gift card, you can usually pay the difference using another accepted payment method such as a credit card, debit card, or mobile wallet.

This process is known as a split payment. Most retailers allow it, though the exact process can vary:

  • Online – The system will apply your gift card balance first, then prompt you to pay the remainder with another method.

  • In-store – The cashier can process your gift card amount and then request an additional form of payment for the outstanding balance.

💡 Tip: Some merchants may have restrictions on split payments (e.g., only allowing them in-store). If you’re planning a purchase that’s larger than your card balance, check the retailer’s policy in advance.
